DigiNet.Air project celebrating interim results

Seven member companies outline their progress on digiitalisation

Seven member companies of the Network Digital Learning in the Aviation Industry of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region” (DigiNet.Air) presented their interim results on Thursday (September 26, 2019) at the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte. Launched in 2017, DigiNet.Air offers mid-sized companies free workshops on the digitisation of business and work processes e.g. networked supply chains, automated production or systematic communication between man and machine.

Augmented reality for maintenance and support

The use of augmented reality poses huge opportunities for maintenance, support and meetings, employee learning and structured knowledge management. The results will be made available to aviation in Hamburg in the coming years. “The DigiNet.Air project is an example of how we can cope with the rapid changes in the world of work,” said Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics, Transport and Innovation.

Interdisciplinary teams

DigiNet.Air’s workshops brings teams from different companies together to analyse business processes and develop methods for implementing new technologies. Robots are programmed, the use of tools is trained with a virtual reality headset and methods for project management are explored. Small and mid-sized companies in particular benefit from an interdisciplinary team that supports concrete processes of change and networks actors,” Westhagemann added.

Funding and backers

DigiNet.Air received almost EUR 5 million from the German Ministry of Education and Research and the European Social Fund and is also backed by Hamburg’s Ministry for Economics, Transport and Innovation. DigiNet.Air involves the Hamburg Centre of Aviation Training-Lab, Hanse-Aerospace and Hecas, the Hamburger Institut für Berufliche Bildung, the HAW Hamburg, Nordbildung, the Bildungsverbund für die Metall- und Elektroindustrie as well as the TUHH Hamburg.
