Hamburg's Millerntor Gallery celebrating "right to water"

Viva con Agua and FC St. Pauli's festival in aid of Mozambique

The Millerntor Gallery will open its doors to local and international artists, musicians and creative artists from July 4-7, 2019. Organised by FC St. Pauli and Viva con Agua, around 100 artists will exhibit and sell their works in aid of so-called WASH projects in Mozambique.

70 per cent of revenues for Wash projects

Around 785 million people worldwide have no access to clean drinking water, according to the World Health Organisation. Lola Mense, curator of the Millerntor Gallery, said: “We want to make this injustice an issue under this year’s theme of “Water is a Human Right”. Around 70 per cent of the proceeds will go towards Viva con Agua’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects. Last year, around 200 honorary supporters and 17,000 visitors flocked to the festival in the Millerntor Stadium. The sale of art works raised EUR 82,916.33 for Viva con Agua’s projects.

Concerts, workshops and lectures

This year, the entire amount raised will benefit Mozambique where only 30 per cent of the population has access to clean drinking water, said Arne Vogler, Managing Director of Viva con Agua. The proceeds will be used to improve hygiene and drinking water conditions there. Concerts, workshops and lectures are just some of the wide-ranging activities during the festival. The walls of the stadium will be decorated by the artists’ works and will remain in place until the next Millerntor Gallery in 2020.
