Five international start-ups focusing on blockchain, augmented reality and gamification entered Monday (August 26th) the three-month Music WorX Accelerator 2019. The support programme, run by the Ministry for Culture and Media and the Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, assists innovative business models in the music industry. The Hamburg-based start-up Tunecity is among this year’s participants and uses augmented reality to make the entire city a place for experiencing music.
Diverse music start-ups coming to Hamburg
“Technological progress is driving the music industry to test new production and sales conditions,” said Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media. The Music WorX Accelerator brings sustainable solutions, which will be promoted through workshops, consultations and workspaces in the WeWork Lab and grants to Hamburg, he added. The variety of technological innovations presented by this year’s teams is impressive, according to Egbert Rühl, Managing Director of Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft.
Blockchain and AR in the music scene
This year’s teams hail from Sweden, Denmark, France and Germany and range from a promotion platform for buskers to infrastructure for managing rights and royalties independently using a blockchain-based log. The founders of Tunecity are working on an app that links up musicians, venues and music fans in a virtual world. Goodies such as concert tickets, songs or digital albums can be sold on the app.
