Start-ups focusing on environmental protection and sustainability have until the deadline of July 31, 2019 to apply for the StartGreen Awards, which will be presented on November 20, 2019 in Berlin during Founders’ Week. StartGreen is a digital information and networking portal for environment-friendly start-ups. The award is held under the auspices of Germany’s Minister for the Environment Svenja Schulze. Every fourth German start-up is environment-friendly, according to the Green Startup Monitor 2018 compiled by the Borderstep Institute for Innovation and Sustainability and the “German Startups Association”:www.deutschestartups.org/en/.
Focus on mobility and consumption
The award honours innovative concepts and solutions to sustainability challenges. Environment-friendly start-ups founded no more than ten years ago are eligible to apply. The first awards in the categories Future Mobility and SDG12:Circular Economy focusing on climate-friendly consumption and environment-friendly mobility will be presented this year. After an initial expert review, three finalists will be selected by public vote. The finalists then have to pitch to an expert jury during Founders’ Week.
Networking brings sustainable success
Apart from cash and non-cash prizes worth over EUR 60,000, StartGreen encourages founders to network among each other and raises their visibility. Professor Dr. Klaus Fichter, Chair of the jury, said: “We provide applicants with access to new partners and platforms. That brings them lasting success.” Companies, investors, funding institutions and lobbyists of a future-orientated economy will also be attending the awards ceremony.
